July 5, 2011

Aunt Dardy, just got home from your funeral. You must be so proud of your babies. Your girls and their hubbies did an awesome job of taking care of everything for you and Shelly.

They must be so very tired but they're made from the same tuff stuff as you, like me and mine, we're hill people, as the saying goes, rough as a cob and tough as nails. I feel blessed that we're all in the same family.

Your funeral was truly something. It reminded me of the ole time ones from when I was a kid, simple but oh, so sincere. It was small but every soul there had been touched by you and left a bit better from the touching, I think.

You have to be smiling still from the wonderful songs sung by your grandbabies, Vanessa and Neila.

I can just see little Neila sittin with you as you both sang, 'This Little Light of Mine.'

What a legacy you've left to those that are a part of your life. Yes, I speak in the present tense, for I truly believe until the last person has past from this earth that has a memory of you, you will remain a part of our lives. I know I'm blessed to have you in my life and to have the wonderful memories of you... your sense of humor, your laughter, your faith... if your granddaughters grow up to be half the woman that you were, they'll be women who holds THEIR lights high and let'ems shine brightly.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you and whispered "Come with Me." With tearful eyes I watched you and saw you pass away. Although I loved you dearly, I could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me He only takes the best.

You can shed tears that I am gone.

Or you can smile because I lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that I will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that I left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see me

Or you can be full of the love we shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember me and only that I am gone

Or you can cherish my memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what I'd want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

To Those I Love

When I am gone release me, let me go

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears

be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess

how much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown

but now it's time to travel on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if you must

then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for ahile that we must part

so bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for your life goes on,

so if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near

and if you listen with your heart, you'll hear

all my love around you, soft and clear.

And then when you must come this way alone

I'll greet you with a hug and a 'Welcome Home'.

A TINY ROSEBUD

The Master Gardner from Heaven above

Planted a seed in the garden of love,

And from there it grew a rosebud small

That never had time to open at all.

For God in his perfect and wise way

Chose this rose for His heavenly bouquet,

And great was the joy of this tiny rose

To be the one the Father chose.

To leave earth's garden for one on high

Whose roses bloom always, and never die,

So while you can't see

your precious rose bloom

You know the Great Gardner

from the "Upper Room"

Is watching and tending each petal so fair

So think of your darling with the angels above

Secure and contented and surrounded by love

And remember God blessed and enriched

your lives too

For in dying your darling brought Heaven

closer to you.

There will come a day when your tears of sorrow will softly flow into tears of remembrance... and your heart will begin to heal itself... and grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy... and you will hear the whisper of hope. There will come a day when you will welcome the tears of remembrance... as a sun shower of the soul... a turning of the tide... a promise of peace. There will come a day when you will... risk loving... go on believing... and treasure the tears of remembering.

The Rose

~ by Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river

That drowns the tender reed.

Some say love, it is a razor

That leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love, it is a hunger,

An endless aching need.

I say love, it is a flower,

And you it's only seed.

It's the heart, afraid of breaking,

That never learns to dance.

It's the dream, afraid of waking,

That never takes a chance.

It's the one who won't be taken,

Who cannot seem to give.

And the soul, afraid of dyin',

That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely,

And the road has been too long,

And you think that love is only

For the lucky and the strong,

Just remember in the winter

Far beneath the bitter snows,

Lies the seed, that with the sun's love,

In the spring becomes the rose

Aunt Dardy, you will bloom again come the Spring ✿⊱╮

The Dance

~ by Garth Brooks

Looking back on the memory of

The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone

For a moment all the world was right

How could I have known

that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know

The way it all would end

the way it all would go

Our lives are better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything

For a moment wasn't I a king

But if I'd only known

how the king would fall

Hey who's to say you know

I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know

The way it all would end

the way it all would go

Our lives are better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

but I'd of had to miss the dance

~ it hurts to lose someone that I love like I do you... but like the song says... I wouldn't give up the joy of having you in my life to forego the pain of losing you in this life ~

When I get where I'm going,

on the far side of the sky

The first thing that I'm gonna to do

is spread my wings and fly

I'm going to land beside a lion

and run my fingers through his mane

or I might find out what it's like

to ride a drop of rain

When I get where I'm going

there'll be only happy tears,

I will shed the sins and struggles

I have carried all these years

and I'll leave my heart wide open

I will love and have no fear

When I get where I'm going

don't cry for me down here

Don't Cry for me...

I you could only see where I'm at now, you wouldn't cry for me. All of Heavens Angels met me when I arrived and I was met by Jesus with a loving embrace. I walked side by side with old friends and family alike. Don't cry for me because here there is no trace of sickness or sadness only His loving Grace. The beauty is beyond words and nothing I could say would compare. Don't cry for me because I am in a far better place, with streets of gold just like we were told. So please remember don't cry for me but rather rejoice for I can hear angels sing. Oh, how much peace their voices bring.

When We Believe

Many nights we pray

With no proof anyone could hear

And our hearts a hopeful song

...We barely understand

Now we are not afraid

Although we know there's much to fear

We were moving mountains long

Before we know we could

Oh yes, there can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracle

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will

You will when you believe

In this time of fear

When prayer so often proves in vain

Hope seems like the summer birds

Too swiftly flown away

And now I am standing here

My heart's so full, I can't explain

Seeking faith and speaking words

I never thought I'd say

There can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracles

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will

You will when you believe

They don't always happen when you ask

And it's easy to give in to your fear, ohh

But when you're blinded by your pain

Can't see your way safe through the rain

Thought of a still resilient voice

Says love is very near

There can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracles

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will, how you will

You will when you believe

You will when you believe

Just believe

You will when you believe

Just believe

You will when you believe

For a Special Mommie

The young mommie set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked.

And the guide said, "Yes and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning."

But the young mommie was happy and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years.

So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them, and taught them how to tie their shoes and do their chores and reminded them to feed their pets and do their homework and brush their teeth.

The sun shone on them and the young mommie cried, "Nothing will ever be more wonderful than this."

Then the nights came and the storms and the path was sometimes dark and the children shook with fear and cold and the mommie drew them close and covered them with her arms and the children said, "mommie, we're not afraid, for you're near, and while we're with you nothing can harm us."

And the morning came and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary and the mommie was weary. But at all times she said to the children, "A little patience, a little bit farther and we'll be there."

So the children climbed and as they climbed they learned to weather the storms. And with this she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all... unconditional love.

And when they reached the top they said, "Mommie, we would not have done it without you."

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mommie grew old and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And the mommie, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children."

And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill and beyond the hill, they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.

And mommie said: "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them."

And the children said, "You will always walk with us, mommie, even when you have gone through the gates."

And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mommie like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence."

Mommie will always be with us.

She's the whisper of the leaves as we walk down the street, She's the smell of certain foods we remember, flowers we pick or freshly ironed clothes, She's the cool hand on our brow when we're not feeling well, She's our breath in the air on a cold winter's day. She's the sound of the rain that lulls us to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, She is Christmas morning.

Mommie lives inside our laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop. Mommie shows every emotion... happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow... and all the while, hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life.

She's the place we came from, our first home, and she's the map we follow with every step we take.

She's our first love, our first friend, even our first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate us.

Not time, not space... not even death!

May we never take our mommies for granted.

"Two Ladies"

They sit upon their shaded porch,

A respite from the day,

Living history under eaves,

There sitting on display.

They looked out on the fields and trees,

The land that held their soul,

Two ladies resting from their work,

The young of long ago.

Their apron stained with this and that,

Their gray heads both held high,

Memories of a hundred years

Relived there in their eyes.

The wrinkled hands that held the plow

In furrows long and straight,

Are hands that cooled a fevered brow

And filled a supper plate.

The lines of life are etched on them,

Their lives about complete,

Two ladies rest there in the shade,

A respite from the heat.

Their cradles rocked so long ago,

To tunes we'll never know,

Two ladies rest upon the porch,

The young of long ago."

I happy am, if well with you."

To Those I Love

When I am gone release me, let me go

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears

be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess

how much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown

but now it's time to travel on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if you must

then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for ahile that we must part

so bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for your life goes on,

so if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near

and if you listen with your heart, you'll hear

all my love around you, soft and clear.

And then when you must come this way alone

I'll greet you with a hug and a 'Welcome Home'.

A TINY ROSEBUD

The Master Gardner from Heaven above

Planted a seed in the garden of love,

And from there it grew a rosebud small

That never had time to open at all.

For God in his perfect and wise way

Chose this rose for His heavenly bouquet,

And great was the joy of this tiny rose

To be the one the Father chose.

To leave earth's garden for one on high

Whose roses bloom always, and never die,

So while you can't see

your precious rose bloom

You know the Great Gardner

from the "Upper Room"

Is watching and tending each petal so fair

So think of your darling with the angels above

Secure and contented and surrounded by love

And remember God blessed and enriched

your lives too

For in dying your darling brought Heaven

closer to you.

There will come a day when your tears of sorrow will softly flow into tears of remembrance... and your heart will begin to heal itself... and grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy... and you will hear the whisper of hope. There will come a day when you will welcome the tears of remembrance... as a sun shower of the soul... a turning of the tide... a promise of peace. There will come a day when you will... risk loving... go on believing... and treasure the tears of remembering.

The Rose

~ by Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river

That drowns the tender reed.

Some say love, it is a razor

That leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love, it is a hunger,

An endless aching need.

I say love, it is a flower,

And you it's only seed.

It's the heart, afraid of breaking,

That never learns to dance.

It's the dream, afraid of waking,

That never takes a chance.

It's the one who won't be taken,

Who cannot seem to give.

And the soul, afraid of dyin',

That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely,

And the road has been too long,

And you think that love is only

For the lucky and the strong,

Just remember in the winter

Far beneath the bitter snows,

Lies the seed, that with the sun's love,

In the spring becomes the rose

Aunt Dardy, you will bloom again come the Spring ✿⊱╮

The Dance

~ by Garth Brooks

Looking back on the memory of

The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone

For a moment all the world was right

How could I have known

that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know

The way it all would end

the way it all would go

Our lives are better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything

For a moment wasn't I a king

But if I'd only known

how the king would fall

Hey who's to say you know

I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know

The way it all would end

the way it all would go

Our lives are better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance

I could have missed the pain

but I'd of had to miss the dance

~ it hurts to lose someone that I love like I do you... but like the song says... I wouldn't give up the joy of having you in my life to forego the pain of losing you in this life ~

But memories of you outlast them all.

Unseen, unheard, you're always near,

Still loved, still missed, still very dear.

When I get where I'm going,

on the far side of the sky

The first thing that I'm gonna to do

is spread my wings and fly

I'm going to land beside a lion

and run my fingers through his mane

or I might find out what it's like

to ride a drop of rain

When I get where I'm going

there'll be only happy tears,

I will shed the sins and struggles

I have carried all these years

and I'll leave my heart wide open

I will love and have no fear

When I get where I'm going

don't cry for me down here

Don't Cry for me...

I you could only see where I'm at now, you wouldn't cry for me. All of Heavens Angels met me when I arrived and I was met by Jesus with a loving embrace. I walked side by side with old friends and family alike. Don't cry for me because here there is no trace of sickness or sadness only His loving Grace. The beauty is beyond words and nothing I could say would compare. Don't cry for me because I am in a far better place, with streets of gold just like we were told. So please remember don't cry for me but rather rejoice for I can hear angels sing. Oh, how much peace their voices bring.

When We Believe

Many nights we pray

With no proof anyone could hear

And our hearts a hopeful song

...We barely understand

Now we are not afraid

Although we know there's much to fear

We were moving mountains long

Before we know we could

Oh yes, there can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracle

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will

You will when you believe

In this time of fear

When prayer so often proves in vain

Hope seems like the summer birds

Too swiftly flown away

And now I am standing here

My heart's so full, I can't explain

Seeking faith and speaking words

I never thought I'd say

There can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracles

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will

You will when you believe

They don't always happen when you ask

And it's easy to give in to your fear, ohh

But when you're blinded by your pain

Can't see your way safe through the rain

Thought of a still resilient voice

Says love is very near

There can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail

It's hard to kill

Who knows what miracles

You can achieve

When you believe

Somehow you will, how you will

You will when you believe

You will when you believe

Just believe

You will when you believe

Just believe

You will when you believe

For a Special Mommie

The young mommie set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked.

And the guide said, "Yes and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning."

But the young mommie was happy and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years.

So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them, and taught them how to tie their shoes and do their chores and reminded them to feed their pets and do their homework and brush their teeth.

The sun shone on them and the young mommie cried, "Nothing will ever be more wonderful than this."

Then the nights came and the storms and the path was sometimes dark and the children shook with fear and cold and the mommie drew them close and covered them with her arms and the children said, "mommie, we're not afraid, for you're near, and while we're with you nothing can harm us."

And the morning came and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary and the mommie was weary. But at all times she said to the children, "A little patience, a little bit farther and we'll be there."

So the children climbed and as they climbed they learned to weather the storms. And with this she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all... unconditional love.

And when they reached the top they said, "Mommie, we would not have done it without you."

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mommie grew old and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And the mommie, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children."

And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill and beyond the hill, they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.

And mommie said: "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them."

And the children said, "You will always walk with us, mommie, even when you have gone through the gates."

And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mommie like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence."

Mommie will always be with us.

She's the whisper of the leaves as we walk down the street, She's the smell of certain foods we remember, flowers we pick or freshly ironed clothes, She's the cool hand on our brow when we're not feeling well, She's our breath in the air on a cold winter's day. She's the sound of the rain that lulls us to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, She is Christmas morning.

Mommie lives inside our laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop. Mommie shows every emotion... happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow... and all the while, hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life.

She's the place we came from, our first home, and she's the map we follow with every step we take.

She's our first love, our first friend, even our first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate us.

Not time, not space... not even death!

May we never take our mommies for granted.

I'm Standing Right Next To You

You can't see me or touch me

but I'm standing right next to you.

It's sad to see you cry for me

I wish you only knew.

I'm standing right next to you.

Even though you think I'm gone,

I've really never left your side

I've been here all along.

So please be brave and dry the tears,

don't let your grief show through.

I love you from a different place,

and I'm standing right next to you.

"Two Ladies"

They sit upon their shaded porch,

A respite from the day,

Living history under eaves,

There sitting on display.

They looked out on the fields and trees,

The land that held their soul,

Two ladies resting from their work,

The young of long ago.

Their apron stained with this and that,

Their gray heads both held high,

Memories of a hundred years

Relived there in their eyes.

The wrinkled hands that held the plow

In furrows long and straight,

Are hands that cooled a fevered brow

And filled a supper plate.

The lines of life are etched on them,

Their lives about complete,

Two ladies rest there in the shade,

A respite from the heat.

Their cradles rocked so long ago,

To tunes we'll never know,

Two ladies rest upon the porch,

The young of long ago."
