Douglass Pioneer Dies at the age of 85
(Special to the Eagle)

Douglass, Kan., Sept 19, 1955.

Mrs. Alice Jane Berger, a resident of this community since 1878, died here today at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Berger was 85.

Born Feb 23, 1870, at Paxton, Illinois, she came to this vicinity with her parents when she was 8 years old. Her parents Robert and Rebecca McWilliams farmed near Douglass, Kansas.

Mrs. Berger's husband, Charles Sumner Berger, died in 1950.

For the past 5 months she had resided with her daughter, Mrs. Florence Barnes of Douglass, Kansas.

Survivors include seven children, Herbert, 1250 Baker, Wichita, KS., Woodrow, 615 No. St. Clare, Wichita, KS., Robert, Rock, Kansas, Harlan, Alamosa, CO., Mrs. Barnes, Mrs. Catherine Alley, Derby, KS., Mrs. Jessie Brown, Augusta, Kansas, and a sister, Miss Etta McWilliams, Derby, KS.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Douglass Methodist Church with the Rev. Karl Magnusson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery, Douglass, KS.
