Film Director, Actor, Writer. After attending an acting school, and participated in the World War II as entertainment actor, he starred in several films made in Russia, including "Taras Shevchenko". His performance earned him the title of "People's Artist of the Soviet Union." In 1959 debuted as Director. In 1968 he won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for "War and Peace: Natasha, the burning of Moscow". During his career he has won several international awards, including the Golden Globe in 1969, the David di Donatello in 1971, and in 1983 the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
