Denver Mayor. Born in Coldwater, Michigan, he moved to Colorado in 1879 and operated a cattle ranch before settling in Denver in 1888. A Republican, Dewey was a member of the State Senate from 1888 to 1892 and held various posts on state and local committees up to his term as Mayor of Denver, from 1919 to 1923. His wife, Adella Brown Bailey, was also active in politics and was an alternate delegate to the 1920 Republican National Convention.
