Bio

I started researching my family history after my mother died from a hereditary disease but got hooked and have been climbing the family tree for over 30 years. I hope I have contributed to the family history for generations to [email protected] am a volunteer with the Portage Community Historical Society and they have allowed me to have a genealogy and historical research area in the Goin Museum. For years I resisted doing Calvary because it is huge. I didn't want to do it just to up my numbers. The 3 other cemeteries I've worked on I was very diligent in doing everything as best I could, making multiply trips back to each cemetery every time a new phase was added to Find A Grave.

For a few reasons I was contacted by Judith Norman because a problem she was having at Calvary and we decided to "read" the whole cemetery for Find A Grave. After doing several areas at Calvary she passed away. I've had other volunteers helping but they have either passed away, moved away or just tired of working in Calvary.You can imagine how excited I am when I realized that all I have to do is take the gravestone pictures and many of you will help me. I am so grateful for the help. Calvary is difficult, so many of the gravestones have sunk into the ground or are difficult to read. The best I can do is take the pictures as I see them. I take about 200 pictures a week and am only halfway done with section E. I do have other volunteers working in Section A and G.

Thanks you so much to all the transcribing volunteers. I've been notified of some duplicates, errors or questionable pictures and will deal with them as best I can. Thank you again for the help. Kathy

My Favorite Poem
A Daisy Beside the Roseby Diana Sue Lindley Horton

Among the many flowers, God,Within Your garden fair, May I, a simple daisy be So proudly standing there.
I need not be the most admired, Great beauty to disclose;
It's certain in Your garden, God,Not all can be a rose.
'Twould be to me an honor, If where Your garden grows,I could but be a daisy - That stands beside the rose.
