Architect. The eldest of the six children of Great Britain's first Labour Prime Minister, he was educated at Bedales School in Hampshire. He was a pacifist during the First World War, and volunteered as an orderly with the Friends Ambulance Unit. After the Armistice, he studied architecture at London University, becoming a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1926 and, in 1942, a Fellow. During the 1930s, he specialized in cinema building, notably the news-theaters at Victoria and Waterloo Stations in London, and many theaters in Scotland. In the Second World War, he served as a fireman in the vigil around St. Paul's Cathedral; and, after the War, designed the Methodist Churches in Amersham, Harlesden, and High Wycombe, as well as the town centre redevelopment in St. Austell. He was married twice, with five children, and died in Brighton.
