Opera Singer. Dramatic soprano. Australian Soprano best known for her Wagnerian interpretations. Her parents were William & Elizabeth Smith Lawrence. Marjorie made her debut at the 1935 Metropolitan Opera, she later taught school at Southern Illinois University and then on the faculty at Garland County Community College in Hot Springs AR. She also taught voice at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 1941 she married Dr. Thomas King in NYC. In that same year, she was stricken with polio, her singing schedule was drastically limited. In 1955 she wrote her autobiography "Interrupted Melody" which soon was turned into a movie bearing the same name. In 2012, a Lawrence biography was published entitled "Wotan's Daughter." In 2021, a new movie documentary of her life was released: Marjorie Lawrence, The World at Her Feet.
