Staff Sergeant Shyda USAF was a passenger on-board US NAVY NATS flight aircraft# 131612. The aircraft was a R6D1 (DC 6) type. While, making an approach from the west to Hickham AFB, Hawaii at 0216 AM in the morning. The aircraft impacted "PaliKea" mountain just outside US Naval Magazine, Naval Ammunition Depot NAD (Oahu), Lualualei. No survivors were noted. His home of record was Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He was survived by his parents Mr & Mrs. Frank and Albina Shyda 242 S. 6th Street, Lebanon. He had enlisted in the Air Force during World War II at the age of 17 wishing to make the service his career. He served his last year with the US Technical Mission in Indochina and was returning home on furlough. His remains were returned to Lebanon, Pa.
