Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of E. Lamar Anderson, age 92, of Swainsboro, GA on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Heavenly Home of Swainsboro after an extended illness.

Funeral services are Friday, March 11th, at 10 AM in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Woodson, Sid Shepherd, and Bishop Clyde Fowler officiating. Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery. Mr. Anderson will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers are Denny Key, Bill Simmons, Rufus Youmans, Jr., Milton Gray, Jim Curry, Sam Sconyers, Butch Parrish, Henry Terwilliger and Sam Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Swainsboro Rotary Club, the Flanders-Hall Sunday School Class, and Directors and employees of the Citizens Bank of Swainsboro. The family will receive friends at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors Thursday evening from 6 – 8 PM.

Mr. Anderson was born in Kite, GA, a WWII Air Force veteran fighter pilot in the Pacific arena, and founder and owner of Auto Parts and Supply Co. for 55 years. He was a charter member of the Swainsboro Rotary Club where he served as President, and was a Paul Harris Scholar. A longtime member of the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce, he served as President from 1966-1967, and was honored as Man of the Year in 2005. Mr. Anderson served the City of Swainsboro as councilman for 12 years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, served as Sunday School Superintendant, Chairman of the Administrative Board, on the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees. He was serving on the Board of Directors with the Citizens Bank of Swainsboro.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Moxley Anderson, a granddaughter, Lisa Ragsdale Alford, and a sister Grace Ivey. Survivors include: One Daughter and Son-In-Law: Patricia and Gene Ragsdale of Swainsboro, GA; one sister: Geneva Powell of Swainsboro, GA; two grandchildren: Scott Ragsdale, and Lori Bonds of Swainsboro, GA; five great-grandchildren: Brice, Barrett, and Aubrey Bonds of Swainsboro, GA, and Ryan and Blake Alford of LaGrange, GA.
