Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Beulah Fern McClung, 92, died Sunday,
April 28, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County in Goodland.
She was born June 8, 1920, at Almena, Kansas, the daughter of Dessa (Linnell)
and Vincent Hawks. She attended Grant Center and Voltaire Center schools in
Sherman County. On June 20, 1937, she and Lawrence Earnest McClung were married
and made their home in Sherman County.
She had worked at the Sale Barn Café, Westside Grocery, Gambles, Jacobs
Appliance, McClung's Appliance, Wendy's and Wal-Mart. Her memberships included
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Business and Professional Women, Elks Lodge 1528,
Order of Eastern Star, and Goodland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She had
enjoyed camping with friends in the Golden Buckle and Good Sam Camper Clubs.
She was an avid bowler, and attended several National Bowling Tournaments.
Preceding her in death were her husband Lawrence McClung, who died March 25,
1995; daughters Marcia Smith, and Patsy Van Vleet; parents; brothers Lowell
Hawks, Henry Hawks, Cloyd Hawks, and Orville Hawks; and sisters Violet Roeder
and Lela Schweitzer.
Surviving family includes four children Larry McClung and his wife Vivian of
Goodland; Janice Duell of Overland Park; Mickey McClung and his wife Connie of
Topeka; and Darwin McClung and his wife Juanita of Garden City; son-in-law
Ronnie Van Vleet of Goodland; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 27
great-great-grandchildren; two sisters Zona Price and her husband Dale of
Goodland; Ina Mae Gwin of Longmont, Colorado; two sisters-in-law Fern Hawks of
Goodland; and Rita Hawks of Omaha, Nebraska.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 1, at 10:30 AM MT, at Emmanuel Lutheran
Church in Goodland, with Pastor Darian Hybl officiating. Burial will follow in
the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Tuesday, from 3:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at
Koons Chapel in Goodland.
