German Nobility. She was born in Dresden as the seventh child of King Johann and Amalie Auguste von Bayern. The king and his brother-in-law Leopold II of Tuscany decided early that Leopold's eldest son should marry a saxon princess. The couple first met in 1854 and was married two years later in Dresden. Their first child was born in 1858 and was names Maria Antonia after Ferdinands mother. Anna died while giving birth to a stillborn daughter. Two months after her death Ferdinand succeeded his father Leopold II as Grand Duke of Tuscany.
