Film Director. Born Philippe Claude Alex de Broca de Ferrussac in Paris, France, he is known for his French New Wave frenetic film comedies. A former assistant to François Truffaut, his career spanned five decades and dozens of films. Best known for his spy spoof "L'Homme de Rio" ("That Man from Rio"), starring Jean Paul Belmondo on a global search for a statuette, and also for his antiwar satire, "King of Hearts," about a WWI soldier, which was a flop in France but a longstanding arthouse cult in the USA.
