The correct spelling is Gunsaulis rather than Gimsalis as per FAG Member #47086496.

Son of Richard Gunsalus and Nancy Baker. First married to Mary Heaverly with whom he had three sons: James Albert, John Irvin and Origin T. Gunsallus. He and Mary moved with their boys to Green County, Wisconsin in 1860s. Between 1870 and 1875 they moved to Cowley County, Kansas. In 1876 he and Mary divorced. In 1883 he married Mary J. Proctor. In 1885 he and "M.J." were living in Sumner Co. Kansas. They either divorced or M.J. died. In 1892 he married Nancy LNU. He changed the family spelling of his surname from Gunsallus to Gunsaulis prior to 1876. This is a unique spelling. It was used by all three of his sons as well.

I found this online from David Gunsallus:

I emailed Emporia, Kansas, and this is what they found for me. This in regard to Nelson. Notice in the directory that there is a Howard listed in 1902-03, Nelson came from Howard Pa. I find this interesting, I feel Nelson must have been a bit of a character. His first wife which I have as Mary Heaverly is living in Cowley County, KS in 1880 and
his children. She lists herself as a widow, though Nelson appears in the 1885, 1895 Kansas census. They were in Green County Wisconsin in 1870. It looks as though only one son married, James Albert, two other sons, John and Origin I found as single later on. Some where I have more just census records, but not in any order yet. I also found Wesley's widow and son Dobbins in Adrian, Lenawee, county MI, but have not heard back from the library there yet. Elizabeth was 83 in 1883, living with Dobbins and his wife, not the same Almira, so Nancy Confer, must have died. Elizabeth, Welsey's widow is listed as Elizabeth McCammon. Still trying to straighten out the Centre Co. Gunsallus, slowly putting it together.

A death notice in the Emporia Gazette dated 1 April 1903 for a Mary Gunsaulis living at Third and Merchant street. She was alone at the time of her death. Her husband, no first name listed, was out of town. There is no indication of a burial place in the article. There is no listing for her in the cemetery tombstone readings for the city or the county.

Gunsulis - Nancy born Ill Jan 1844 age 56 and Nelson born Mich Aug 1832 age 67 married 8 years, Nancy had 2 children, 2 living. They are not listed here.

Newspaper indexes were checked from 1895 through 1910- no articles were listed for Nelson or Nancy Gunsaulis by any other spelling. No marriage records were found.

Mary Jane (Bowman) PROCTOR (his second wife) didn't die; she moved on to Oklahoma. Reason I know this is one of her descendants shared info on parts of her life some years back. Yesterday, looking for more records, I ran across an 1890 marriage record for Mary Jane:
