C. Muriel (Worcester) Wood, of Springvale, passed away April 28 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a brief illness.

She was born in East Lebanon on April 2, 1916, the daughter of Leslie L. and Cora J. (Rogers) Worcester. She was a graduate of Sanford High School and Northeastern Business College in Portland.

Mrs. Wood was employed for 10 years by the U. S. Navy Department in Bath, Brunswick and Portsmouth, prior to her marriage in 1947. She was then employed at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in South Portland for 5 years, and then at Mercy Hospital from 1969 until her retirement in 1988.

She was a member of the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland, past Benevolence Treasurer, past president of Ruth Circle, past treasurer of the United Methodist Women and past treasurer of the Ladies Day Group.

Her husband, John L. H. Wood, died in 1968. She was also predeceased by a brother, Ralph W. Worcester and by two sisters, Ruth E. Worcester and Margaret J. Goodwin.

Muriel was a feisty and capable lady with an extremely keen mind and generous spirit.

She was greatly admired and will be sadly missed by two sisters Mrs. Myron (Helen) Butler of Alfred, Mrs. Kenneth (Margery) White of Sanford, 14 nieces and nephews, several grandnieces and grandnephews and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Henry Gnade officiating. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
