DEATH: NEW JERSEY ARCHIVES, First Series, Vol. XXIII, Abstracts of Wills, Vol. I, 1670-1730, edited by William Nelson, Paterson, NJ, 1901, pp. 19, 20. 1725-6 Feb. 27. Ayars, Stephen, of Cohansey, Salem Co., yeoman; will of. Mother, Hester Ayars; brothers -- John (sole executor), Josuah, Caleb and Robert. Real and personal estate. Witnesses -- Joseph Reeve, William Garton, Samuel Johnson. Proved April 12, 1726. Lib. 2, p. 345. 1726 April 11. Inventory of the personal estate, £45.12, made by Joseph Reeve and William Garton.

WILL: SALEM COUNTY N. J. GENEALOGICAL DATA, Compiled by H. Stanley Craig, Vol. I, Merchantville, NJ, H. Stanley Craig, ND, p. 12. Stephen, Cohansey, will 2-27-1725/6; pr. 4-12-1726. Mother Hester Ayers. Bros. John, Josua, Caleb and Robert. Lib. 2, p. 345.

WILL: SALEM COUNTY INDEX OF WILLS, p. 1152. 284Q. B. 2, p 345. W. 1726. Inv. 1726. Died between 6 Feb 1725/6 and 12 April 1726. He left, by his will, to his mother, Esther, his lands during her life, after her death to go to John and Joshua; movables to Caleb and Robert.

BIOGRAPHY: Frank D. Andrews, ROBERT AYARS AND HIS DESCENDANTS, Vineland, NJ, Privately Published, 1918, p. 9. Died bet. Feb. 25, and April 12, 1726. If Hester Bowen is his mother, then he was no older than 41 when he died. If Katharin was his mother, then he was no older than 53. In his will, however, he calls Esther his "mother". Unless he is using this term loosely, it would seem that Esther is his mother, and he was therefore born after 1687.
