J. Burge Morrell, 47, died
Wednesday (April 13, 1960) in
his home at 571 Ashland Ave.,
bringing to an end a six-genera-
tion line of men bearing the
name Joseph Morrell who
were active in Niagara Fron-
tier affairs. (He was the
son of the late Joseph D. and
Annie L. Morrell a prominent
realtor and civic leader)

Mr. Morrell, who used the
name of J. Burge Morrell, was
born in Buffalo and was a grad-
uate of the Nichols School (and
received a degree in Business
administration from)
the University of Buffalo.

He was employed by the Fleet
Aircraft Co. in Buffalo and Cal-
iornia after graduation. During
World War II he was sent to
Mexico to work with his father
the late Joseph Depuy Morrell,
obtaining mahogany that was
critically needed by the Navy.
The elder Mr. Morrell was
president of the Tehuantepec
Lumber Co. of Mexico City and
a building contractor in Buffalo.

The first in the long line of
Joseph Morrells was a Jeweler
by trade, who fought and was
killed in action during the War
of 1812. His unmarked grave
at Lewiston(correction: Williamsville)
was discovered and
identified only a few years ago.

Prior to his death Wednesday,
J.Burge Morrell was engaged
in distribution of motion-
picture films in Buffalo area.

He is survived by his wife,
the former Imogene Tyree, and a
sister, Mrs Bradley D. Walls

Burial will be in Riverdale
Cemetery in Lewiston, which oc-
cupies land that formerly was
a part of the Morrell family
homestead.

at the residence of Mrs.
Walls, 309 Summer St. from 7-9 p.m.
Friday evening. Memorial services will
be held later.
