In the early hours of Sunday morning, Feb. 24, Mrs. C. A. McGaughy passed quietly away, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Bruns, 631 North Morris street, following an illness of two weeks.
Funeral services were held at the residence of Mrs. Bruns at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. W. E. Hand, pastor of the Grand avenue Baptist Church, officiating........
Christine Adelia Morris was married to Francis Marion McGaughy on January 4, 1875 at Sherman, Texas and they came to Gainesville shortly afterward. With the exception of a few years spent in Denton, Mrs. McGaughy had lived continuously in Gainesville.
To this union six children were born, all of whom survive Mrs. McGaughy, as follows: J. M. of Eugene, Ore.; W. A. of Fort Worth; L. E. of Clinton, Ark.; Edgar E. of Houston; O. R. of Fort Worth and Mr. Frank Bruns of this city, with whom she had made her home for the past fourteen years. Besides her children, she is survived by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. McGaughy died 23 years ago.
As a girl, she was reared in Tennessee and lived through the stirring scenes of the civil war. At one time, General Bragg had his commissary in her home and the family was barricaded for days on Lookout mountain.
