George W. Shearer, of Hanover, entered into God's eternal care December 3, 2012, with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Kathleen R. (Swartz) Shearer with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.

Born February 23, 1917, in Hanover, he was the son of the late George D. Shearer and Della M. (Sheaffer) Shearer.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

He retired from Shearer Service after many years of service as a refrigeration technician.

George was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent, former Sunday School Teacher and former Church Council Member. He was a charter member of the Hanover Pacers Square Dancing Club, a member of the Hanover Republican Club, and an active member of the Penn Township Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, George is survived by three children, Miriam R. Rang of Littlestown, G. Mark Shearer and wife Mary Ellen of Hanover, Karen D. Parenteau and husband Mark of Frederick, MD; and one son-in-law, Gary Collingsworth of Hanover; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda M. Collingsworth; one son-in-law, Skip Rang; five brothers, J. Earl Shearer, Walter J. Shearer, Lloyd E. Shearer, John Shearer, and Lester Shearer; and one sister, Miriam Myers.

A service to celebrate and remember George's life will be held at 11 a.m., December 7, 2012, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover, with Rev. DeLong officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery.
