Adam was the son of Peter Hess and Theresa Broming. On 22 Aug 1854 he married Eva "Rosina" Miller and they had six children: Francis, Pauline, Henry, Mary Rosalia, Eva, and Anna. Adam died of cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 53.
