Charlotte was only about six weeks old when her mother died and 5 months old at the death of her father.
Since her paternal grandparents were dead, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Lucretia Ann Denning Shaler, until Lucretia "Lucy" died in 1843 at age 77.
In June of the following year, Charlotte married Henry Griswold Hubbard.
The news of her death was reported in the New Haven Register; New Haven, Connecticut.

Charlotte R., widow of Henry G. Hubbard, of Middletown, and daughter of Commodore Thomas McDonough, died at Hotel Bon Air, Augusta, Ga., last night of pneumonia. She was in perfect health when she went South six weeks ago and was taken sick last week.
Her daughter, Mrs. E.K. Hubbard, who was in Washington, was sent for. Mrs. Hubbard always lived in Middletown and had been very much interested in charitable work.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. E.K. Hubbard, and three grandchildren, Samuel Russell, T. McDonough Russell, and Mrs. Charles Dabney, children of her oldest daughter.
