Excerpt from El Paso Times obituary, February 23, 2001:

Alvin Floyd Parnell passed away in El Paso on February 22, 2001. He was a resident of El Paso and Southern New Mexico since 1935. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ketchum, four children, seven grandchildren, two brothers, Calvin and Dale Parnell and one sister, Wanda Miller. Alvin graduated from Hatch High School.

Alvin was a fireman and locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 47 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and served for 9 years as local chairman. His other memberships included the Anthony Rangers, Masonic Lodge 1111 and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. In addition to his employment with Southern Pacific Railroad, Alvin farmed in Anthony, New Mexico for 45 years.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home West. Interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. The service will be led by Yates Folk, a Minister from the Church of Christ in Anthony. Floyd ''Red'' Nelson will be the speaker. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be sent to the following: Hospice of El Paso, El Paso Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
