Mamie Ruth Ketchum Parnell, 85, passed away on September 17, 2009 at her residence at Manor Park in Midland. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents William and Clara Ketchum, sisters Susan Black, Edith Remy, and Ava Vanstory, son-in-law David "Jake" Chesser, and her husband of sixty-three years, Alvin Parnell.

Mrs. Parnell is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Parnell was a 1941 graduate of Hatch Union High School where she was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the band. She later graduated from the El Paso Business School and worked in the accounting department at Sunland Park Race Track.

Mrs. Parnell was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, was a 40 year member of PTA, and a secretary for the Boy Scouts of America. Ruth was very proud to witness all of her children graduate from college. Ruth loved to paint, play bridge and spend time with her family.

A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Felicia Hopkins of St. Marks United Methodist Church, was held on September 21, 2009 at Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to Hospice El Paso or Hospice Midland. Arrangements by Martin Funeral Home.
