He married his wife Susan on March 30, 1937 and she preceded him in death in November of 2005.
He attended schools in Marinette and in his early working years followed his father and worked on the Great Lakes as a cook. He was with the Reiss Steamship Company for over 19 years, leaving to spend more time with his family. He then worked a variety of jobs before working for Ansul Company for 26 years, retiring in June of 1976.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Holy Name Society, Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and an usher at the church. An avid golfer, he was a member of Little River Country Club, the Silver Swingers and the Ansul golf league.
Survivors include a son George (Mary) of Pembine, WI;
four daughters: Mrs. Richard (Johann) Hebert of Winter; Mrs. Al (Penny) Tyczkowski of Appleton, WI; Mrs. James (Linda) Knutson of Marinette, WI and Sandra Paris of Milwaukee, WI;
12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
a sister, Bernice Wortner;
a sister and brother-in-law, Beattie and Bill Nemetz;
seven godchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, along with countless others who celebrated his life.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Ray, Art and Henry; a sister Florence; three sisters-in-law: Gladys, Doris and Ruth Paris; a brother-in-law, Ralph Wortner; two sons-in-la:, David Martindale and David Olson and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn (Molin) Paris.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church on Carney Blvd., Marinette. Rev. Lawrence Marto officiated and burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
