Cloyd W. George, 372 West Louther Street, died this morning in the Carlisle Hospital. He was 72 years old.
Born Mar. 22, 1893, in Perry County, he was a son of the late Charles and Sophie Gutshall George. He was a retired employe (sic) of the State Highway Department. He was a member of the Newville Church of the Brethren for 48 years, a member of the Willing Workers Class of the Sunday School, a former member of the church choir, and was a deacon in the church for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Burkholder George; seven sons, Charles F., Dale G. and Galen W., all of Carlisle; Chester B., Harrisburg; Cloyd W., Jr., Ryukyu Island, Okinawa; Glenn E., RD4, and Roy B., Spring City; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel McLaughlin, RD3, Newville, and Mrs. Elden Myers, Carlisle; five brothers, Ira, Oakville; Melvin, Annville; Smiley, Webster City, Iowa; John, Wormleysburg, and Wilbur, New Cumberland; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Brown, Newville; Mrs. Mildred Baker, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Mary Raye, Shiremanstown; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Roth Funeral Home, 169 West High Street. The Rev. Robert L. Cocklin will officiate. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening at the funeral home.
