William C. Alvord Dies
Career of Well-Known Citizen is Closed
Manager of Failing Estate and ex-Bank Executive Resident of Portland Since 1888
William Cullum Alvord ex-cashier of the First National bank and since 1909 manager of the Failing estate, died at his late residence, 202 King street, at 8:30 o’clock last night from heart disease. He had been ill for two years, but it was only a week ago that his condition became grave.
Mr. Alvord was among the best know of Portland citizens having lived here since 1888.
1897 he married Genevieve Schuyler, daughter of General Philip Schuyler, who survives. Other near relatives are two brothers, General Benjamin Alvord and Alden H. Alvord of Washington D.C., and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Craig of Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Alvord was the son of the late General and Mrs. Benjamin Alvord and was born at Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, January 11, 1866.
Upon his arrival in Portland he became and official of the First National bank, retiring from the position of cashier to undertake management of the Failing estate.
He was a 33d degree Mason, a vestryman of Trinity Episcopal church, a life member of the Multnomah club, member of the Arlington and Waverly clubs, Sons of the American Revolution and the Lang Syne society.
The body was taken to the Holman undertaking establishment.
Funeral arrangements will probably be completed today.

Alvord Funeral Is Set
Services to Be Held at Trinity Episcopal Church
Funeral services for William C. Alvord, ex-cashier of the First National bank and later manager of the Failing estate, who died at the family residence, 202 King street, Wednesday night, will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 from the Trinity Episcopal church, with Dr. A.A. Morrison officiating, according to arrangements completed yesterday.
Interment will be in Riverview cemetery.
Masonic services for Mr. Alvord who was a 33d degree Mason, will be held at the cathedral this evening at 9 o’clock. Friends of Mr. Alvord have been invited to this service. No one will be admitted to the cathedral after 8:45.
Mr. Alvord’s death followed an illness of two years. He is survived by his widow, two brothers, General Benjamin Alvord and Alden H. Alvord of Washington D.C., and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Craig of Baltimore, Md.
