Fletcher Hope born 1827, Checkendon, Oxfordshire, England to Fletcher and Rebecca Giles Hope. One of 9 children, believed to be the only Hope sibling to immigrate to America, arriving New York, 1849 at the age of 22. Resided in the 5th Ward Of Syracuse, NY. Married Eliza Grant of Udimore, Sussex, England and Syracuse, NY. Fletcher & Eliza had seven children. Eliza died in 1865, Syracuse, age 35, of consumption. Fletcher married Hannah R. Corran Bennett of NY aft 1865. He and his family arrived Chicago, IL, after 1870.For many years, Fletcher Hope and son, John Grant Hope, owned and operated Fletcher Hope & Son Paint & Decorating Business on Cottage Grove Ave., Chicago.
At the age of 91,residing on Dorchester Ave., Fletcher Hope, a widower, died 9 June 1918 "from a fall down the stairs". He was buried 11 June 1918 Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago.
