Pvt. Jesse W Gribble, USM CR, son of Walter L and Genevieve Gribble, Hagerman, Ida. and whose widow Mrs. Coral Brown Gribble., was killed on Iwo Jima.
Born July 16, 1920, at Hagerman, he attended schools there and was employed by Union Pacific Railroad Co. in Salt Lake City prior to entering the Marine corps on
28 June 1944. Completed in the 5th recruit training Battalion MCB San Diego. July 1944 assigned to the 7th training Battalion 2nd Infantry training regiment, MCB camp Pendleton CA and trained as a machine gunner.

11 November 1944 assigned to the 27th replacement draft. November 23 1944 embarked USAT KOTA Agoeng at San Diego
debarked 2 December 1944 at Hilo, Hawaii. 27th replacement draft was attached to Service troops, 5th Marine Division.
27 December 1944 embarked USS Athene at Hilo.
22 January 1945 left Pearl Harbor for invasion of Iwo Jima. Interim stop at Saipan thenb on to D-Day at Iwo Jima
19 february 1945. Served as member of USS Athene's ships platoon loading and unloading cargo until ship was unloaded during battle of Iwo Jima.

March 1, 1945 sent ashore and assigned s an infantry replacement in G Comp., 3rd battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division. Participated in compat operations until killed in action March 6, 1945. (received by combat and fellow Marine Hubert Caloud).

Survivors include his parents, Widow; infant son Larry Jesse Gribble; two brothers Mayron Gribble, carpenter's mate 2/c, just returned from Sicily, and Louis Gribble 3 sisters Lt. Helen Gribble, A N C, Letterman hospital San Francisco; Mrs Irma Sheldon, Buhl, ID. and Mrs K J Sullivan in Salt Lake City UT.
