JONESPORT – Gloria M. Floyd, a lifetime resident of Washington County, passed away at the age of 85 on Friday, December 7, 2012, in Milbridge, surrounded by family

Gloria was born February 5, 1927, in Jonesport to Lewis and Sybil (Fickett) Beal. She grew up in Jonesport and was a graduate of the Jonesport High School class of 1944. After graduation, Gloria worked in the offices of Charlie Stevens Sardine Factory. However, she preferred nurturing and caring for her family as a wife and mother. In addition to teaching the practical life lessons: keeping ones hands to oneself, crocheting, and homework, Gloria set the example of the importance of simply spending time with family. Every holiday, birthday, or other event was sure to call the family together to celebrate with cake and ice cream. For her hobby and interior design, Gloria was famous for her many houseplants, at one time tending over 100 different planted containers. In her free time, she enjoyed sharing her favorite game, Beano, with others.

Gloria is survived by her children, Eva Hatt, and her husband, Noyes, of Cherryfield, Jane Crowley of Jonesport, and Harold Floyd, Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Conway, New Hampshire; Sister Lois Thistlewood,16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Floyd Sr.; daughter, Jane Floyd; grandson, Brian McGuire; sisters, Marcia Schoppee, Almeda Drisko, and Vivian Beal; and son-in-law, Arlin Crowley.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. (Bangor Daily News posted 12/17/2012)
