Claire Dittrich VanArsdal of Indianapolis, passed away December 18, 2012. She was 104 years old. A strong woman beyond her generation, she was a devoted daughter of Irvington.

A benefactor and generous supporter of the Irvington United Methodist Church, and The Benton House, she was a recipient of the Irvington Historical Society "George S. Coffman Award" for her devotion to the preservation of Irvington history. Founder of the Kum Duble Sunday School Class, along with her husband of 55 years, Roy, who predeceased her in 1986, she lived to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the still active group which was a center of her life.

An astute bridge player and avid Yahtzee competitor, she, until recently, could and would take on either of her daughters or any one of her five grandchildren willing to take the risk of being defeated by Grandmama. Claire was loved by and friend to many; her circle emcompassed the communities of her homes in Litchfield, SC, Marshfield, MA, and Indianapolis yet she remained loyal to her roots in Irvington and served as Honorary Chairman of the Board of Glenroy Construction Company, which she and her husband founded in 1949.

Claire is survived by her two daughters, Nancy VanArsdall (Mary Gaul) and Linda VanArsdall (Robert Kinnenmonth); her five grandchildren, Julianne (Matt Hurdle), Katherine Jones, Kimberly Cody (Jeff Erickson), Jesse N. Jones, IV (Elissa Milto) and James R. Cody (Kelly); and many great grandchildren.

Services entrusted to Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel.
