Kathleen Elder was born in Oklahoma in 1935. She was educated at the University of Wyoming. There she met and married Ross Elder. After they both earned a Masters in Education they moved to Martin, Tennessee. There she and Ross began their teaching and coaching careers. Ms. Elder worked in education for over 30 years in both the Weakley and Obion County School Systems. She taught elementary and middle school. She was the guidance counselor at both Westview High School and Union City High School as well. Kathleen retired her education career as an Educator Evaluator for the Tennessee State Department of Education in the late 1980s. Sadly, Kathleen became a widow in 1986, when Ross Elder died of a heart attack. Ms. Elder moved to Nashville a few years later. In Nashville, Kathleen enjoyed growing roses, going to Cheekwood, playing bridge with her Vanderbilt Women's Club and traveling abroad whenever she could.

She is survived by her two sisters, Martha and Sandra, her three children, Jeff, Lynn and Kelli, her 3 grandchildren, Amy, Caleb, and Sierra, and her great-grandson, Sean.

Kathleen Elder will be buried at East Side Cemetery along with her husband, M. Ross Elder.
