CHARLES WILLIAM "BILL" BANTA
Charles William Banta, Feb. 6, 1941 - Aug. 20, 2008, 67, of Chicago, Ill., died Wednesday in Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago. Born in Portland to Willard and Mary Elizabeth (Robbins) Banta, he was a 1959 graduate of Portland High School and a graduate of Indiana University.
Retired as a worker for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, he was a member of United Transportation Workers Union and Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include a son, William R. Banta, Chicago, his mother, Mary Elizabeth Wirth, Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Tom Banta, Portland, and Jack Banta, Westfield; a sister, Cynthia Banta, Sacramento, Calif.; and three grandchildren,
Private family services will be held and burial will be held in Green Park Cemetery. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Chicago Solidarity Branch, 1736 West Rascher, Chicago, Ill. 60640, Attention: John Obedia.
