The D.O.B. Dec. 14 1893 is from John’s WWI Registration card. The 1900 U.S. Census has Dec. 1893, the Beech Grove Cemetery record has Nov. 1893 and the Indiana Gold Star Honor Roll has Sep. 25, 1897. John signed his WWI Registration card with an “s” added to the Worrel surname.

John H. Worrel was the son of Emanuel and Charity Worrel. He was born December 14, 1893, in Yorktown IN and moved to Muncie in 1904. He was never married.

He worked at the Skillen-Goodin Glass Co. in Indiana as a Glass Blower and the St. Albans Glass Co. in West Virginia. John entered service September 5, 1917, Charleston VA. Sent to Camp Lee VA he was assigned to 35th Company, 9th Training Battalion, 155th Depot Brigade. He was transferred to Company D, 7th Training Battalion, Infantry Replacement Troops. Overseas in September 1918. Assigned to Company C, 11th Infantry, 2nd Division. John was killed in action October 14, 1918, Montfaucon France. His rank, Private.

His burial was overseas, location unknown. John is listed in World War Gold Star Honor Roll, Indiana.

Sometime before Aug. 21, 1921 the body of John H. Worrel was repatriated from France. No records have been found.

On Sunday Aug. 21, 1921 services were held in the Beech Grove Chapel. Services were by Undertaker H. G. Hampton of Eaton IN. The final resting place of John H. Worrel is in Beech Grove Cemetery Muncie IN, American Legion section, Lot 4B.
