Charles married five times. First to Martha Jane Linson on Nov 27, 1870, in Bartholomew Co., IN., with whom he had two daughters: Ella Gertrude (1871) and Carrie T. (1873).

Second, he married Nancy Ann Carney (1865-1885)on Jan 4, 1880, in Cass Co, IN. They had two children: Mary Edna (1880) and Charles Edward (Edd) (1882). Following Nancy's death, he married her sister, Hannah "Henney" H. Carney (1871-1887)on May 25, 1886, in Cass Co, IN.; no issue.

Fourth, he married Lorena Belle Gibson in Cass County, IN. on Mar 23, 1887 also in Cass County, IN. Rumor was that they boarded a train after the wedding and he got off the train before it left, leaving her on it.

Fifth marriage was to Cora Mae Lemaster on Nov 12, 1891, in Bartholomew Co, IN. The had 6 children: Daisy Mae (1891-1903), John Clifford (1892-1972), Grant Merrill (1897-1973), Daniel Dean (1902-1968), and Tressa Moore (1907-1970).
