Stephen R. Starbird, 92, of South Paris died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. He was born in South Paris on August 24, 1920 the son of Frank L. and Gertrude Thurlow Starbird. He grew up and attended schools in South Paris. He served in the Army/Air force during World War II, spending time in England as a cook and was present in Paris, France on Liberation Day. On November 18, 1945 he married Olga Kyllonen, they made their home on Walker Street in South Paris before he built their home on Nichol Street in South Paris. He was a carpenter by trade working for Phil White then L.M. Longley and Sons where he worked until retirement. He loved woodworking and gardening, his property was his pride and joy. He was the last and youngest of 8 siblings. Stephen is survived by his wife; 5 children Nancy and her husband Frank Wood, David Starbird and his significant other, Elaine, Susan Starbird, Sylvia and her husband George Normand, and Patricia and her husband Torrance Norsworthy; 7 grandchildren, Sean, Stephen, Jennifer, Paige, Amy, Daniel, and Beth; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
