Jerry L. Downing, 57, of Chillicothe, died 3:06 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born May 14, 1955, in Clarksburg, Ohio, to Austin Gene and Mary B. Daugherty Downing. On July 19, 1994, he married the former Amy M. Trego who survives.

In addition to his wife of Chillicothe and mother, of Clarksburg, he is survived by four children, all of Chillicothe; 6 grandchildren, including Joey; a brother, of Chillicothe; and two sisters. He was predeceased by a daughter, Heather Downing; father, Austin Downing; and brothers, Austin and Lafayette Downing.

Jerry had been a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Deerfield Township for many years.

A graveside service will be held 12 noon Monday, January 7, 2013 in Brown's Chapel Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Brad Harris officiating. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ware Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
