Also served as 2nd Lieutenant Company E and Adjutant (promoted on July 6, 1863) in the 43rd Pennsylvania Militia from June 25, 1863 to August 13, 1863. He also served as 1st Lieutenant, Company K 124th Pennsylvania Infantry from November 10, 1862 to May 17, 1863 and fought in the battles of Second Bull Run, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. Appointed 1st Lieutenant by Governor Curtin to fill a vacancy in the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. At war's end, the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry were consolidated to form the 3rd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry. George was mustered out as a 1st Lieutenant in Company B, 3rd PA Provisional Cavalry on October 31, 1865.

He later moved to Chicago where he served as Director in the Lake Street Elevated Railroad, and also a Director in the North Shore and Evanston Street Railroad Company. Filed for a pension on October 2, 1890, application number 919,262, certificate 815,146. Wife Anne filed for a widow's pension on May 18, 1900, application number 719,317, certificate 531,005. He died April 3, 1900, at Chicago, Illinois. Also listed as buried in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
