The body of Francis Ewell, who died at the home of his son, Rev. Edwin Ewell, Litchfield, Mich., on Tuesday, July 30th, was brought here for burial on Thursday. THe body was accompanied by Mrs. Edwin Ewell and a daughter, Esther. Rev. S. C. Farnham conducted funeral services at Corwin's undertaking rooms.
Deceased was one of the Middlebury Ewells, a family well known and highly respected in this section since early in the nineteenth century, when the brothers, James and John Ewell, came from Scituate, Mass., and bought farms in what is now known as West Middlebury. Mr. Ewell was born in this town in July, 1824, his parents being John Ewell and Esther Walker Ewell. He followed the occupation of farmer and for several years conducted a harness shop at Dale. He served on the Town Board as justice of the peace for some time. His wife was Louise Miller. About fifteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ewell went to Michigan to live with their son, who is a Congregational clergyman. Mrs. Ewell died in November, 1910 and was buried in Wyoming cemetery.
Two sons survive, Elbert J. of Warsaw and Edwin.
