Emma Newman
NEWMAN, Emma M., age 100, of Doolin Route, New Martinsville, WV, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the New Martinsville Care & Rehab Center.
She was born August 23, 1912 in Wetzel County, WV, the daughter of the late Joseph Clarence and Amanda E. McCullough Starkey.
Emma was a cook for Wetzel County Schools, a member of the New Martinsville Christian Church Disciples of Christ, and Chapter #50 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a homemaker and loved to quilt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Newman in 1983; four brothers, Raymond, John, Clarence and Paul Starkey; and four sisters, Sarah Wolfe, Dolly Smith, Goldie Crimmel and Rosemond Tiber.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Viola) Newman and Donald (Shirley) Newman, both of New Martinsville; three daughters, Joan (Charles) Cecil of Edgewater, FL, Jacklyn (Art) Boyd of Seal Beach, CA and Marilyn Yoho of New Martinsville; several grandchildren, great-grand children and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from noon until the time of the Funeral Service at 1p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, with Rev. Dr. Victor L. Hunter officiating. Eastern Star services will be held Monday at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in the Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.
