In 1968 he won a singing competition in Oslo and was offered a two-year contract with The Norwegian Opera. While in Bremen he was able to make several guest appearances, among others at the Jutland Opera at Aarhus as Rocco in "Fidelio" and at The Royal Danish Opera where he became a member from New Year 1973. In Italy he sang the principal part in Meyerbeer's "The Prophet", and in 1975 in England he appeared in Wagner's "The Ring" at Covent Garden and at The English National Opera. His appearances in England were repeated frequently alternating with appearances in USA, Holland, Germany, Poland, Italy, Sweden and France where his parts included that of king Heinrich in "Lohengrin", the Landgraf in "Tannhäuser", king Marke in "Tristan und Isolde", the title part in "Falstaff", and in Wagner's "The Ring" he sang the parts of Fafner, Hagen, Fasold and Hunding. He was a welcome guest at the principal opera houses such a the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Bayreuth and at the Salzburg festivals. Apart from his operatic work he acted in two Danish films and provided the Danish voice of Zeus in Disney's "Hercules" and of Mufasa in "The Lion King". Much of his work has been preserved on CDs and videos. At his death from cancer he was buried at his home town Lilleroed.  (bio by: Erik Skytte)
