Auto Mechanic & RaceCar Driver. Darl was an Auto Mechanic by day and an advid racer by night and weekends. He built his own race cars as well as drove them. He loved bowling on the off seasons of racing. Bowling became a weekly outing for him and his family.
He was born in Port Angeles, Washington and moved to Seattle in 1915 at age 7. He got into mechanics when he was in high school and eventually quit school to get a job as an auto mechanic. It was then that he got into building race cars and eventually started to race the cars he built.
He met Maxine Brooks in late 1936, they were married August 29, 1937, in Seattle, Washington. Darl and Maxine had three daughters; Darline Jeanette born Feb 22, 1938, Julia Sorge born March 16, 1939, and Lynn Favro born Sept. 5, 1944. Maxine had a miscarriage in 1942. Darl and Maxine separated in 1961, and were finally divorced in March 1965. Darl remarried in 1966 to Isabell Lampe of Idaho. They were together till Darl passed away in 1971 from an intestinal blockage.
