James Newton Armstrong was the son of Henry Clay and Julia Ann (Holland) Armstrong. He married Rebecca Buchanan Jordan, the daughter of Leander and Margaret Ann (Pritchett) Jordan on August 31, 1892 in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana and she survived him.
