He was wounded at Malvern Hill in Henrico Co.,VA on Jul 1, 1862. He was taken to Globe Hospital in Richmond,VA. His brother Abraham must have gotten word to his father who seems to have come to Richmond before Benjamin's death. Benjamin Chapman died of his wounds in Richmond,VA the day after his 19th birthday. Two days later his father John h. Chapman made a claim for his son's pay and allowances which totaled $79.93. He appeared before the local justic of the Peace to certify that his son Benjamin had no wife or child. This claim was reported to the Comptroller on Aug. 18,1862.
