Ira Austin Putnam, oldest son of Jerome E. and Martha H. Putnam, was born near St. John, Putnam county, Mo., February 4, 1873, and departed this life at the Grim-Smith hospital, Kirksville, Mo., November 4, 1933, being at the time of his death 60 years and 9 months of age.

On January 1, 1902, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Williams, and to this union were born four children, the oldest, an infant son, preceded him in death. Those living are: Mrs. Amel G. Ward, Powersville, Mo.; Isal A. and Opal L., of the home.

In the year of 1916 he professed his faith in God and at the time of his death was a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. Putnam had been in failing health for several years but since July 1933, had been unable to attend to his farm duties. On Monday, October 30, he became worse and was taken to Kirksville hospital Wednesday where all that could be done by loving hands and medical science was done, but to no avail. A Higher Power claimed him back for His own.

He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife, three daughters, two little granddaughters, Jo Eleanor and Marilyn Grace Ward, a son-in-law, Charles Ward all who were at his bedside at the time of his death; one brother, Sumner J. of Dinuba, Cal.; three sisters: Mrs. Ora Roberts, Powersville, Mo.; Mrs. Estella Williams, Chillicothe, Mo.; and Mrs. Myrle Morris, Midwest, Wyo., and one step-sister, Mrs. Maude Callison, Colorado Springs, Colo., besides many other relatives and friends. His father and mother, one sister, Mrs. W. A. Pollock, and one little granddaughter, Darlyne Ward, preceded him in death.

He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend, always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral services were conducted from the Mt. Hope church November 6 by Reverend Boone, assisted by Rev. W. A. Pollock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Torrey cemetery in the presence of a large number of friends.
