Educator. Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, he moved to Missouri in 1838, where he became involved in a number of entrepreneurial and public pursuits. From 1851 to 1864, he served as Public Administrator of Lafayette County, was a partner in the Morrison-Wentworth Bank and served as president of the Farmer's Exchange Bank. He helped to incorporate the Board of Trustees for Elizabeth Aull Seminary, serving as treasurer 1859 to 1880 and as president from 1883 to 1897. In 1880, he established the Wentworth Male Academy as a memorial to his son and the school changed its name to the Wentworth Military Academy and College in Lexington, Missouri, in 1890.
