Samuel B. Musselman was a well-known coverlet maker in the local area. Some source claim dates of 1799-1871 for Samuel but this is based on a misreading of his tombstone. Bucks County estate records prove that Samuel died in 1874, not 1871, and given the age listed on his tombstone, he was therefore born in 1802, not 1799.

Many sources state that Samuel B. was the son of Rev. Samuel Musselman (1759-1847), including an article on the Musselman family that was published in the MHEP Journal. However, this information is not correct. The 1810 census shows that Rev. Samuel did not have any sons born after 1800 (only 1 daughter). Further, the will of Rev. Samuel's brother Jacob shows that his youngest son was Samuel. Given the ages of his other known sons, Jacob's son Samuel must have been born after 1800 and Jacob's wife was known to be a Beidler so this Samuel is Samuel Beidler Musselman, son of Jacob Musselman.

Sources also state that Rev. Samuel's wife was a Bachman and that this Samuel was Samuel Bachman Musselman. However, that information is also incorrect. Michael S. Musselman (1785-1872) is a proven son of Rev. Samuel based on the old bible at West Swamp Mennonite Church. Michael consistently used the middle initial S. which means that his mother Hannah must have had a maiden name starting with S, not B.
