Elizabeth Ernestine Dorn was born on July 30, 1877, near Liberty Grove, Door county, Wisconsin. She was baptized into the Christian faith. As a child she came in 1885 with her parents to Lincoln county, and has lived here for her entire lifetime since with the exception of three years she spent in northern Minnesota. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Argo township, South Dakota, in 1892.

On June 18, 1902, she was united in marriage to Paul Schwanz. They were the parents of nine children, all of whom survive. Mr. Schwanz passed away during the flu epidemic of 1919, and Mrs. Schwanz carried on with the task of bringing up the children, many of them quite young.

Those who survive are the nine children, four daughters, Mrs. Ingvald Lokken of Hendricks, Mrs. Alex Zinda of Anaheim, Calif., Mrs. Harold Parks of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mrs. Gordon Carter of San Juan, Calif.; and five sons, Orville and Lloyd of Anaheim, Calif., Howard of Westminster, Calif., Melvin of Oxford, Calif., and Ralph of LaCrosse, Wis. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Henry Willert of Verrdi, and 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
