Mr. Jack Roland Atkins Sr., of Greensboro, went home to be with his savior on Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Black Mountain, while enjoying a family trip.


Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sure Foundation Baptist Church with burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.


Jack Atkins was a great man of God who served the Lord with all his heart. He raised his children and grandchildren to love the Lord in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he had attended as a youngster. Jack served as a deacon and usher and was a member of Sure Foundation Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Jack's TV on Randleman Road. Jack served his country with the United States Marine Corps in the Korean Conflict and was a great man of honor.


He was a kind and loving man who will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a giving and loving husband to Eleanor Atkins for one week short of 50 years who will greatly miss him. He was a caring father and friend to his children, Patricia Hinshaw (Marcus), Diane Godfrey (Mark), Jack Roland Atkins Jr., Wendy Elks (Mike), Barry Atkins (who was called home before his father) (Rachel), Wanda Jackson (Phil), Cheryl Ryals (Tony), and Pamela Mimms (Ronnie). Jack was very proud of his grandchildren, April (Steve), Misty(Ronald), Toby, Jeremy, Brad(Clara) and Shane/ Danny(Alice), Josh(Leslie), and Jennifer(Greg)/ Michael, Amber, Lucas(Marissa)and Jordan/ Josiah, Susanna, Rosalynn, Caroline, Elaina/ PJ, Graham, Leighah, Hannah, and Jessica/ Candace, Tyler, and Chad/ RJ and Jesse. And Paw Paw will always be in the hearts of his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Daniel, and Nathan/ Shiane, Joshua, Jack, Brock, Clayton, and Destiny/ Bryce and Ethan. Jack's sister and brothers, Dot Lohr with her husband, Jack; Friel Atkins Jr., and George Atkins will miss him dearly.


Along with Barry, Jack was welcomed home by his parents, Freid and Ester Atkins, sister, Louise, and brothers, Larry and Bobby Atkins, along with his father and mother-in-law, Grady and Zelda Bowden.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at George Brothers Funeral Service.
