Charles Edwin "Ed" Foster, 85, Logansport, passed away 3:15 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, in his home.

Born Nov. 11, 1924, in Logansport, he was the son of Verna and Loretta Welsh Foster. He was married June 8, 1947, in Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church, to Joan Smith, who survives.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Ed served during World War II on the USS Mobile. He was the recipient of 13 Battle Stars.

Ed was retired after 33 years with GTE and 10 years with United, where he worked as a supervisor.

Ed attended Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 and American Legion Post 60. He was also a member of Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33.

Surviving with his wife of 63 years, Joan, are two sons, Joseph Robert Foster, Morgan Hill, Calif., and James Jonathan (Katherine) Foster, Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Grant) Moland, Winchester, and Judith Marie Beck, Fort Wayne; one brother, Vern E.

(Betty) Foster Jr., Lake Placid, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Joseph Robert Foster II, Indianapolis, Master Sgt. Bradley Charles (Funda) Foster, Scott AFB, Ill., Melissa Marie Moland, Carmel, Kourtney Lyn Beck, Lafayette, Marcus Grant (Jessica) Moland, Indianapolis, Nicholas Howell Foster, Logansport, and Joshua Michael

(Samantha) Beck, Fort Wayne; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Foster, Highland, Ill., Logan Bertan Foster, Scott AFB, Ill., and Devin Kenneth Beck, Fort Wayne; and several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Kenneth Beck; two sisters, Florence Adair and Annabelle Thomas; and three brothers, Floyd, Robert and Alfred Foster.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at sea in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fisher Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice and Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church.
