Professional tennis player. Born Gertrude Agusta Moran, she was engagingly known also for her unconventionality deriving from her habit of wearing lace panties during tennis matches. She made ​​her debut in the world of tennis in 1940, but only in 1949 when participated at Wimbledon's tournament, was admitted into the professional category. Gussie Moran became a very folk figure for having interpreted herself in the film "Pat and Mike" by George Cukor. Her face became increasingly familiar to the American public not so much for her sports career, as it her highest award was a fourth place in the U.S. national tennis ranking, but for having been the cover girl of leading magazines around the world, for having given the her name to a racehorse, an aircraft, and a sauce, and for the subsequent activities as television journalist and tennis instructor.
