He retired from the Lansing Police Department in May 1985, and went on to work 10 years for the Parking and Code Enforcement Division of the East Lansing Police Department.
Robert was a member of FOP #141, and the Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671, VFW. During his career with the Lansing Police, he was a Traffic Patrol Sergeant, worked in the Detective Bureau, was a founding member of the Tri-county Metro Narcotics Squad, and retired as Lieutenant.
Robert was a patriot, serving his country and community, and in the eyes of his grandson and family, was a hero because of it. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Hawaii and Japan.
His character lives on with family members who cherish their shared memories: his wife, Sharon; children, Karen (Dallas) Burdick, Stephen (Cathy) Moss, Kelly Bailey, Linda (Gilbert) Castillo; grandchildren, Sasha Bankson, Lyah (Jeremy) VanSickle, Jeff Burdick, Alayna Bailey, Dalton Bailey, Brycen Castillo; great-grandchild, Ava, and special family friend, Julie. He is also survived by: sister, Jeanne (Michael) Fancher; brother-in-law, Steve Parks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet; sister, Judy Parks; son-in-law, Jim Bailey.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, January 21, 2013, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Lansing, with The Rev. Fr. John Fain officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Robert Moss.
